Demolishing historic University Club for a new McDonald’s (photos)

Crews demolished the historic University Club this month to make way for a McDonald’s – and possibly a dollar store – on Jefferson near downtown Detroit.

We broke the news two week ago.

The collegiate gothic building was gutted in an intentionally set fire this summer, ending hopes of preserving the building.

The building’s owner, Jeffriv LLC, is operated by Albert Ammori, who owns a liquor store across the street. Since buying the property for $600,000 in April 2010, Ammori neglected the building.
