Homeowner: Shotgun ‘accidentally’ went off, killing 19-year-old

renisha-mcbrideA Dearborn Heights homeowner said he accidentally shot 19-year-old Renisha McBride in the face after fearing she was robbing him, police said today.

The case has stirred controversy because McBride, who is black, was killed while seeking help following a car accident in a predominately white neighborhood in Dearborn Heights.

At 2:30 a.m. Saturday, McBride scampered from her car to a house where she knocked for help. The homeowner, whose name has not yet been released, opened the door with a shotgun. He said the gun accidentally went off.

McBride died on the front porch.

The case is under investigation by the Dearborn Heights Police Department.

Police seized the homeowner’s .12-gauge for analysis.

The “facts” in this case keep shifting around, and the current account isn’t complete. Where did the dumped body story originate? Is there any truth to it? Why did the family believe/say Renisha was shot in the back of her head? Where did the family get that information? How does anyone know what Renisha was doing and saying there? The Dearborn Heights neighborhood in question is across the street from a Detroit neighborhood where crime is off the hook. It is wise to wait for the facts to emerge. The shooter hasn’t had his say. Kym Worthy will drill down hard in search of solid evidence. She’s among the few elected officials who can be trusted to handle her business without ever going sideways. She’s deliberate and fair. If Kym Worthy wants more information, there’s good reason to pause.

    Did he ever contact 911?

The world versus Kym Worthy and the corrupt Dearborn Heights Police Department. Who will win?

Here’s what puzzles me: if he was afraid enough to be carrying a shotgun, why did he even answer the door? This story just doesn’t make sense.

    • Aletha Oberdier

Totally agree, need to see more facts, something is missing here. Personally I wouldn’t answer the door in my neighborhood at that hour at all!!

ACCIDENTALLY SHOOT A 12 GAUGE??? Was it a Pump action or no? If it was a pump action, no way. If it wasn’t a pump action, NO WAY. There is a little button that you have to depress that allows you to pull the trigger on most shotguns, pump action or not. If that button isn’t depressed, the trigger won’t allow you to pull it back fully, and will NOT discharge. I know, because I have two.

What are you talking about? All modern guns have a Safety, but I don’t think you are too familiar with firearms.

  • Victor Koos

I’m sure it accidentally went off when he pointed it at her head and his finger twitched on the trigger.
