Detroiter chooses death over arrest, pledging ‘Not going back to jail’

MapA 25-year-old man wanted for attempted murder refused to surrender to police and instead turned a gun on himself Monday night, committing suicide, police said this morning.

The suspect “indicated he wasn’t going back to jail” and chose the quick way out, police said.

Police heard the gunshot from outside and then discovered his lifeless body at 1:20 a.m. today.

Police recovered the weapon.

The man was wanted out of Warren.

  • A similar incident happened up north in Alpena/Montmorency counties this weekend. A man stabbed a mother and son in Alpena, took off in his car and when police caught up with him, he chose suicide via semi truck. It’s one thing if you are going to take your own life, quite another thing if you decide to take others with you.

Something similar happened just over a week ago at 5000 Town Center in Southfield, but in that case it was someone accused of sex trafficking.
