Aerial view: Demolition levels 10-block area of east side, clears way for progress

Crews recently wiped out a 10-block area that included decaying buildings, thick overgrowth and discarded tires and needles.

The 10-block area near Eastern Market is bound by Chene, St. Aubin, Pierce and Wilkins.

Mayor Dave Bing said the project, which cost about 0,000, is the first of many to be headed up by the newly created Blight Authority, which will collect tax dollars and private donations to level more blocks across the city.
