Video: Mayor Bing to reveal details behind mysterious east-side project tonight?

At a time when Detroit is on the verge of a state financial takeover, Mayor Bing won’t have a lot of good news to share during his annual State of the City address tonight.

But there is one big project the mayor is expected to unveil tonight.

Over the past two weeks, crews have leveled 12 blocks of abandoned houses, dilapidated buildings, trees and rubbish. With the exception of a few remaining occupied houses, the land is vacant.

We broke the story Feb. 1, but the mayor has refused to talk about it.

Will it be urban farms? New houses? A combination of both?

The land is on prime real estate. The soil is nutrient-dense. It’s near Eastern Market, downtown and the freeways.
