Cemetery mystery: A body and coffin were stolen from a Detroit mausoleum

A body and casket are missing from a Detroit cemetery.

Gethsemane Cemetery confirmed to Motor City Muckraker that someone removed the body and casket of a man who recently died. The man’s body was in a mausoleum awaiting burial when someone snatched it from the east-side cemetery near the Coleman A. Young Municipal Airport.

Police said this evening they were investigating the case and are on the hunt for the 48-year-old son, who is believed to be involved in the theft.

The body was to be buried Monday, but cemetery workers were shocked to discover the coffin and body were missing.
