Wednesday was deadly for two good Samaritans in Detroit.
A 62-year-old grandfather and decorated Vietnam veteran was shot to death after trying to protect his granddaughter from four robbers in a west side home.
After intruders pistol-whipped his 16-year-old grandson, John Villneff was shot shielding his granddaughter, police said.
On the city’s east side, a 55-year-old man was stabbed to death trying to protect a woman from being assaulted by a man on the 2900 block of Alter Road.
Police believe they know the identities of all the attackers.
No one was in custody as of this morning.
The shootings come on the same week that Detroit City Council rejected placing a proposed tax increase on the ballot for more police.
“We are in a crisis,” Police Chief Ralph Godbee said.
