More excessive pension perks for top Wayne County officials

While Wayne County cut services, closed parks and reduced police protection, the government took care of its high-ranking appointees and politicians at the expense of taxpayers.

More than 50 Wayne County employees are eligible for lifetime health care benefits with as little as three years on the job, the Free Press reports this morning.

It’s just the latest embarrassment for the county, which is under a federal investigation for pension-related perks.

The case of excessive pension plans to appointees of Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano took another turn Tuesday after the Free Press revealed that three former Ficano appointees landed six-figure jobs at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano has brazenly ignored calls to resign.
